More about me
How do you Partner with people to 'clear the path ahead'?
I partner with people by hearing what their goals are and helping them identify how to reach them. By partnering with them I am able to provide them with resources they need to achieve their goals. I assist them in becoming familiar with self-direction by providing them with the steps to take. I encourage the person to take control and learn to navigate the system but help them 'clear the path' as they run into obstacles along their way.
What's your favorite thing about being an IRIS consultant?
My favorite thing about being an IRIS Consultant is the opportunity to work with a diverse group of people. Each person is very unique and I like to learn about the individual and what their specific needs, struggles, strengths and goals are. I enjoy that each person and their journey is so different and I am always learning something new about people or how to do things.
What past experience prepared you to become an IRIS Consultant?
My previous experience as a caregiver in a residential group home allowed me the opportunity to have a better understanding of what a day is like for a person with a disability. It helped me prepare for my job as a consultant because I learned to be creative to get things to work for the unique needs of each individual. In my work as a nursing home social worker I did discharge planning and this allowed me to familiarize myself with different types of services and equipment available in the community.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
In my spare time I like to spend time in Wausau visiting with my family. I also enjoy cooking and trying new recipes. I also knit but this is a hobby I reserve for the colder months and I mainly knit scarves and blankets. In the warmer weather I like to spend as much time outside as possible, I enjoy gardening, camping and kayaking.
